The perfect teen party

Meet friends, watch movies or series, listen to music, dance and party – there’s nothing better than a party! For children in the tween or pre-teen phase, these moments are perceived as particularly important. In a phase of physical and mental changes, friends or peers are a permanent fixture to whom you can entrust yourself and with whom you feel well cared for. And especially after the children had to do without so much last year, it even needs a special occasion for a small party, right?

Preparation & Organization

Our job as parents is to help with the organization and smooth running of the party. Where, how and when the party will take place must be decided in good time. For a movie evening with friends, the children’s room is certainly enough. If the whole clique comes to celebrate, you may be able to provide the garage or the cellar. Of course, decoration and music should not be missing. You can also agree on a party motto, which helps enormously in the decision about the decoration or in the color choice. But it is important here that it does not become too stressful – your children should best have a say in the decision and help with the preparation. Not everything has to be perfect, but above all relaxed. When the preparations are more or less complete, it’s time to think about eating!

Rainbow Sushi

Preparation time: about 60 minutes

Cooling time: about 35 minutes

Ingredients for 30 pieces:

300g Sushi Rice

Salt

1 Cucumber

1 Red Pepper

4 Tubes Food Coloring (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow)

3 Nori Leaves

4 Tbsp Mayonnaise

2 Tbsp Sriracha Sauce (Hot Chili Sauce)

Soy Sauce

Additional:

1 baking tray

1 sheet of baking paper cling film

1 small freezer bag

Preparation:

Soak the rice in a bowl of water and drain in a sieve. Repeat until the water is no longer milky. Mix rice with 1 1?2 times the amount of water and a little salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer rice covered on a low level for about 20 minutes. Then turn off the stove and let the rice steep for about 10 minutes.

Put the rice on a baking paper and spread. Allow to cool and then spread over 5 bowls.

Rinse the cucumber and pepper and drain. Third the cucumber and cut lengthwise into thin strips. Halve the pepper, destemming, pitting and removing the white partitions. Also cut the peppers into thin strips.

Mix 3 drops of red and 2 drops of blue food coloring to get purple food coloring. Dye the rice with the different food colors (red, blue, green, yellow, purple). To do this, add 4–5 drops of food coloring to the rice and stir it.

Place a nori leaf with the smooth side facing upwards on a large piece of cling film. Apply a third of the yellow rice as a stripe smoothly on the lower edge of the nori leaf. The best way to do this is with wet hands. Next, continue with the blue, green, purple and then the red rice. The nori leaf is now completely covered with the colorful rice strips.

In the lower third, place 2 cucumber and 2 pepper strips on top of each other. A long line is to be created again.

Now roll up the nori leaf with the cling film and press the roll firmly. Caution: Do not roll in the film! Do the same with the other nori leaves. Cool the sushi rolls for about 30 minutes.

Mix the mayonnaise with the chili sauce and pour into the freezer bag. Cut open the sushi rolls of 10 pieces each and arrange them on a plate. Cut open a small corner of the bag and squirt the sauce thinly over the rolls. Serve with soy sauce.

Tip: It is easier to roll the sushi with a bamboo mat. To do this, line the bamboo mat with cling film, place the nori leaf on it and prepare the sushi as described.
